‘Come on; there is sixpence for you: let’s have a song’
Sir Toby Belch, The Tempest.
(To be sung, very slightly off)
On your marks, get set, bake-bake!
Baked in a pie cake.
When the pie cake was opened,
The queen (of cakes) began to sing;
What a dainty dish to set
Before the baker king!
Comparing twelve rum babas;
The queen was in the marquee,
Also counting up the faux pas.
Sue was in the garden,
Salivating – her usual pose;
When down came the weight of Natasha’s cake,
Parodying itself: an anti-rose.
Wonky Jack required a doctor,
But none was present then;
Only Tasha’s pail of bain-marie
Could save his neck from being cut, again.
